Csiromedusa medeopolis is a species ofhydrozoan described in 2010.[2][3][4]It was discovered in theestuarine waters of theRiver Derwent near to theCommonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation'sMarine and Atmospheric Research branch inHobart,Tasmania, Australia.[3]C. medeopolis has been described as presenting a newfamily andgenus as well asspecies.[3][4][5]
Itsbinomial name is derived from "CSIRO jellyfish" and "city of gonads".[3][4] Unlike most other jellyfish, males and females ofC. medeopolis have manygonads located on their dorsalendoderm. These gonads have been described as arranged like "skyscrapers in a downtown business district".[4]
