

TheCrown and Treaty is apub on Oxford Road inUxbridge, London, England, whereCharles I and hisParliamentary opponents during theEnglish Civil War held negotiations (theTreaty of Uxbridge) between 30 January and 22 February 1645.[1] It is aGrade II* listed building, dating from 1576.[2]
The Crown and Treaty was built in the early sixteenth century as Place House. It was two thirds larger than it is today, but was reduced in size when Oxford Road was widened to accommodate thecoaching traffic in the eighteenth century, and was converted into acoaching inn. The architectural conversion was overseen bySir John Soane.[3]
Mercury Prize-nominated bandSweet Billy Pilgrim named their third albumCrown and Treaty after the pub.[4]
In the 2019 general election, contesting the seat ofUxbridge and South Ruislip,Count Binface proposed improvements to the pub in his manifesto:[5]

The woodpanelling was sold in 1924 to decorate an office in theEmpire State Building. However, as a gift toElizabeth II during hercoronation in 1953 the panelling was reinstalled in the inn. The pub closed for refurbishing in April 2018, and reopened on 25 October 2019.[citation needed]
