Cristina Danielle Valenzuela (born July 11, 1987), known professionally asCristina Vee, is an American voice actress and singer. She is known for her work in video games and English dubs of anime.
Vee was born Cristina Danielle Valenzuela[1] inLos Angeles on July 11, 1987. She has Lebanese, Mexican (Tepehuán), and Spanish ancestry.[2][3][4] She grew up inNorwalk, California, where she attended public school.[5] One of her early interests was music, and she participated in the Norwalk All City band in middle school and high school.[5] Her classmates called her "Sailor Moon Girl" due to her passion for acting and animation, and she co-foundedJohn Glenn High School's anime club.[5]
Vee studiedtheatre arts and graduated fromCalifornia State University at Long Beach in 2007.[5][6][7] She struggled with her mental health during college and later said, "Even though I loved studying theater and performing in shows, college was a really hard time for me. Because ofdepression andpanic attacks, there were a couple of years where it was extremely hard for me to go to classes."[5]
Vee has been involved in several animation projects. In March 2012, she started aKickstartercrowdfunding campaign to produce an animated music video in conjunction with Cybergraphix Animation andStudio APPP.[34] The main character of the video, "Cristina Veecaloid", was designed bySkullgirls creative director Alex Ahad,[34] Her character was later named Milky and was made into an iOS game calledVeecaloid Pop released in 2015.[35][36] In 2012, Vee was involved in voice casting and directing theSkullgirls video game and web series. The game was nominated at the40th Annie Awards.[37] In 2015, Vee began voicingMarinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug in the English dub of the animated seriesMiraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The show premiered onNickelodeon in December 2015,[38][39] and has aired six seasons and five specials on Netflix and nowDisney+ andDisney Channel. Executive producer Jared Wolfsen said that Vee and the other English dub voice actors brought a lot of energy to their characters, and that Vee herself is just like Ladybug – sweet and kind, and so fun to watch.[40] In 2021 and 2024, Vee voicedVerosika Mayday in the animated web seriesHelluva Boss, starring in the episodes "Spring Broken", "Ozzie's" and "Apology Tour".
In June 2023, it was announced that she would voice Tere and Toñita in the animated seriesPrimos, which premiered in July 2024 on Disney Channel.[41][42]
In addition to performing live asHaruhi Suzumiya, Vee has appeared on screen on various web series, television shows and events. She was a host onAnime TV where she reviewed shows and interviewed people, and appeared on Funimation On Demand andCrunchyroll.[47][48][49] She was a live-action host ofIGN's IPL4 and IPL5League of Legends video game tournaments in Las Vegas.[8][50][51] She is a frequent guest at many anime conventions throughout the United States and worldwide.[52]
Vee is also a professional singer, and has performed the theme songs for twoShantae video games: "Dance Through the Danger" for 2016'sShantae: Half-Genie Hero and "Rise and Shine Shantae" for 2019'sShantae and the Seven Sirens.[53][54] She also performed the theme song "Until I'm Broken" for the 2012 visual novelLoren the Amazon Princess.[55] She performed multiple songs for the mobile gacha gameArknights: "Boiling Blood"[56] in 2019, "ALIVE"[57] in 2021, "Spark for Dream"[58] in 2022 and "Water Quench"[59] in 2023. In 2023, she sang the English dub ending theme forDigimon Adventure:, "KUYASHISAWA TANE".[60]
Vee has uploaded several renditions of anime songs on YouTube.[11] In 2015, she released an EP calledMenagerie with DJ Bouche which was part of theViewster's Omakase subscription service.[61][62] She and YouTuber Nathan Sharp (NateWantsToBattle) released a cover ofCharlie Puth's song "Attention" in August 2017.[63] She also signed with an indie record label called Give Heart Records.[64] In May 2023, she recorded a cover ofJack Black's song "Peaches" fromThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, rewritten to be sung byBowsette instead ofBowser.[65] She also recorded a cover ofThe Living Tombstone's song "Animal" withthe 8-Bit Big Band in an arrangement byCharlie Rosen. In April 2024, Vee released a cover of "Whatever It Takes" from thePrime Video animated seriesHazbin Hotel (set in the same fictional universe asHelluva Boss), featuring content creator, cosplayer and voice actress Sofia Gomez and musician Tre Watson.[66]
Vee has lived in theEagle Rock area of Los Angeles since 2012.[67] She became engaged to fellow voice actor and musician Nathan Sharp in January 2018,[68] but they separated eight months later.[69]
In February 2024, an anonymousTwitter user falsely included Vee on a list ofZionist voice actors,[70] prompting Vee and her fans to respond with proof of her support forPalestine and participation inanti-Zionist boycotts.[70] However, by this time, she had already received death threats and soon deactivated her account.[70] The anonymous user apologized but later deactivated their account due to backlash.[70]
