Crimson Editor is afreeware[2]text editor forMicrosoft Windows. It is typically used as asource code editor andHTML editor.[3][4] The author was Ingyu Kang.[5]
Crimson Editor features Windows shell integration,tabbed document interface,syntax highlighting, multiple undo/redo, column mode editing, bracket matching, auto-indentation,spell checking, direct editing of text files inFTP and the integration withcompilers.Unicode (although only for the characters within the default character set of Windows) and variousnewlines are supported. Crimson Editor also supports the use ofmacros. The built-incalculator can evaluate simple expressions. Basicmathematicsfunctions, anddate functions are also available.[3][6][7] Column mode allows rectangular text interactions.[8]
Crimson Editor has been extensively reviewed and well received.[9][10][11] It has been described as a very good editor and pseudo-IDE interface for programmers to use.[4] It has been highlighted that it has a good set of features, syntax-highlighting for many formats, and includes integrated FTP. However, there are some memory issues with several (full-project) files, and it sometimes crashes.[3]
