Founded in December 2011, it is led by Thanos Tzimeros[16][17] and is self-identified as a citizen-centered political movement,[18] with emphasis on the rebuilding of the Greek state.[19][20]
The party participated in theMay 2012 Greek legislative election shortly after being founded, receiving 2.15% of the total vote, short of the 3% threshold needed to enterParliament.[21][22] In the repeat elections inJune, it formed anelectoral alliance withDrasi, a fellowliberal party that had finished directly below them in the May election[23] with 1.8% of the vote.[24] Recreate Greece also approachedDemocratic Alliance,[25] but the latter opted to run on theNew Democracy list instead.[26] In the 17 June 2012 elections, the combined parties garnered only 1.59%, a lower vote than either got in the elections the month before.[27] Drasi would later merge withNew Democracy, while Recreate Greece declined further, receiving 0.53% inthe 2015 election and 0.74% in2019. In 2020, Thanos Tzimeros announced a new coalition with far-right politicianFailos Kranidiotis,[28] which was later merged with a new party formed by Greek conservative MP Constantinos Bogdanos, and namedNational Creation.
After the party's failure to enter parliament inMay 2023 general election Thanos Tzimeros resigned from president[29] and the coalition got dissolved.[30]
On 15–17 January 2024, elections were taken place for the party's new president and Vangelis Aktsalis was elected.[31] In April 2024, the party was renamed to "Creation".[32] After theEuropean elections of 2024, Aktsalis resigned.[33]
Originally, the party's ideology has been referred to asclassical liberalism and that it used to promoteneoliberal ideas of free markets and small government. Because of his involvement for over a decade, it is widely believed that the party's leader Thanos Tzimeros shapes the party's ideology.[34] His speeches and beliefs have changed over the years, shifting the party further to the right.[35][36] He has been described as extreme orfar-right.[9] Tzimeros has described the GreekCommunist Party as dangerous and that it must be outlawed,[37] whilst he compares it toneo-Nazism.[38] In some cases, he even expressed controversial opinions about theGreek National Resistance being a historical crime.[39][40] He tends to have controversial views on migration, which have been described as racist, and often proclaims thatIslam is a threat.[12][41][42]
Other notable incidents include Tzimeros' calls to overthrow the government in June 2015 which led to a criminal investigation.[43]
