Penis orpizzle is a type ofoffal. In many cultures, it is ataboo food. Penis is eaten in some cultures ortraditional medicine systems as a purportedhealth food: it may be seen as anaphrodisiac, a cure forsexual dysfunction, ahangover cure, and more. Penis is often paired withtesticles as food.

Penis is majoritycollagen, so it typically has agelatinous texture.[1][2]

The penis is typicallybyproduct in themeat industry.[3] Penis has to be removed with care, at risk of rupturing thebladder orurethra and contaminating the carcass withurine.[4]

Consumption by region

Penis is ataboo food in many cultures, even those that consume copiousoffal; Robert Rotenberg ofDePaul University opines that thesymbolic association of penis tocoitus,urination andejaculation makes consuming it off-putting. Even in areas where penis is consumed, it is typically a niche food and eaten under specific circumstances, such as when their purported health benefits are needed.[5]

Caldo de cardán (lit.'driveshaft broth'), known by the moniker "The Viagra of the Andes", is aBolivian cuisine bull penis andtesticle soup. A speciality ofEl Alto andLa Paz, the soup is eaten for its perceived benefits as astimulant,aphrodisiac andhangover cure, and forpain relief.Caldo de cardán typically features many other meats, such asbeef tendon,ribs, andch'arki, as well as hardboiled eggs, potatoes, rice, onions andllajua. The soup issimmered for over ten hours and typically served on weekends, particularly Sunday morning, at a high temperature.[6][7][8][9]

Colombia

Caldo de raíz (lit.'root soup') orcaldo peligroso (lit.'dangerous broth') is aColombian cuisine bull penis andtesticles soup. The soup is cooked for hours with potatoes, peas, and occasionally beans.Caldo de raíz is eaten as anaphrodisiac.[10][11][12]

Ecuador

Caldo de tronquito is anEcuadorian cuisine bull penis soup. The soup features grains likehominy andcorn, beans likechickpeas andfava beans, andoffal liketripe andtesticles; the ingredients are comparable to afanesca with meat. Regional variations includeManabí, where peanuts and milk are added, andLa Costa, which favors corn,cassava and carrots. The soup is eaten as ahangover cure, to treatanemia, assist recovery from sickness orpost-partum, and as anaphrodisiac.[13][14][15]

Caldo de tronquito was created in 16th centuryQuito after theSpanish colonization of Ecuador introduced cattle to the continent.[15]

El Salvador

"Triple saldo" is aSalvadorean cuisine bull penis andtesticles soup. The soup issimmered for eight hours, withcrema and eggs of free-range chickens added at the end. Triple saldo is eaten as anaphrodisiac.[16]

Bull penis and testicle tacos (tacos de viril) are becoming popular inAhuachapán.[17]

Jamaica

Viril de toro is a traditionalMexicancantina food prepared by boilingbull pizzle in vinegar, slicing it into pieces, and serving withtoothpicks.[1][20]

Africa

Lasopy soucril (French:zizi de zebu[21]) is azebu penis soup inMalagasy cuisine. It is seen as anaphrodisiac and a treatment forinfertility anderectile dysfunction. The penis is soaked and par-boiled to remove any remaining urine, then boiled with vegetables for several hours.Lasopy soucril is served at a high temperature with pepper and chilies.[22]

In China, penis is eaten intraditional Chinese medicine to treaterectile dysfunction. Penis iseuphemistically known asbian ('whip').[23][24]

Chongqing penis stew is a delicacy ofChongqing, featuringSichuan pepper.[23]

Guo Li Zhuang is a Chinese restaurant that specializes in penis dishes. The restaurant features table-sidetraditional Chinese medicine nutritionists that recommend dishes based on diners' ailments; penises offered includedog,goat,deer, bull, ox, yak, sheep,horse,donkey, andseal. The restaurant has expanded from America to China, with multiple locations in theBeijing area.[25][26][24]

Sup torpedo (lit.'torpedo soup'; alsosup hameeed) is aMalaysian Indian cuisine bull peniscurry soup, a delicacy ofmamak stalls typically served withroti benggali.[27] The soup is typically eaten as an aphrodisiac; variations includesup torpedo campur, which includes goat's testicles and horse penis.[28] TheMufti of Federal Territory's Office [ms] opines that eatingsup torpedo, althoughhalal, ismakruh for being genital meat.[29][30]

"Soup Number Five" (also Soup No. 5, Soup #5) is aFilipino cuisine soup made frombull'stestes orpenis. It is believed to haveaphrodisiac properties.[31][32][33]Cebu's variant of Soup Number Five is calledlansiao (alsolanciao; fromChinese:𡳞鳥;Pe̍h-ōe-jī:lǎn-chiáu, penis) fromPhilippine Hokkien.[34] Soup Number Five is popularly known as "Remember Me" ("RM") inCagayan de Oro inMindanao, supplanting its other names in the northern regions of the Philippines.[35][36][37]
