Countisbury[1] is a village and formercivil parish, now in the parish ofBrendon and Countisbury, in theNorth Devon district, in the county ofDevon, England. It is onExmoor,[2] roughly two miles east ofLynmouth along theA39. It has a church[3] and pub.[4] TheNational Trust owns the other buildings.[5][6] In 2001 the parish had a population of 66.

On 1 April 2013 the parish was abolished and merged withBrendon to form "Brendon and Countisbury".[7]

Scholars[8][9] now believe theIron Agepromontory fort ofWind Hill on Countisbury Hill was the site of theBattle of Cynuit in 878.
