The genusCossyphicula was introduced in 1934 by the German ornithologistHermann Grote to accommodate thewhite-bellied robin-chat which is therefore considered as thetype species.[1][2] The name is a diminutive of the genus nameCossypha introduced for the robin-chats byNicholas Aylward Vigors in 1825.[3]
