Cordovan is a rich, darkshade ofburgundy with a hint ofrose. Cordovan takes its name from the city ofCórdoba, Spain, where the production ofcordovan leather was first practiced by theVisigoths in the seventh century.[2] The termcordovan has come to describe the color of clothing – leather in particular; in this sense, the use ofcordovan overlaps with that ofoxblood.
The first recorded use ofcordovan as a color name in English was in 1925.[3]
