Cook County Board of Commissioners 8th district is asingle-memberelectoral district for theCook County Board of Commissioners. It is currently represented by Jessica Vasquez, aDemocrat.
The district was established in 1994, when the board transitioned from holding elections in individual districts, as opposed to the previous practice of having twomulti-member districts districts: one for ten members from the city ofChicago and another for seven members from suburban Cook County.[1]
Throughout its history, the district has been located in the Near Northwest Side ofChicago.
When the district was first established, it represented parts of the Near Northwest Side of Chicago.[2]
New boundaries were adopted in August 2001, withredistricting taking place following the2000 United States census.[3] The boundaries were entirely within the city of Chicago.[4] It represented Near Northwest Chicago.[5]
The district currently, asredistricted in 2012 following the2010 United States census, continued to be entirely located entirely within the city boundaries of Chicago, and largely resembled the shape that the district already had before the redistricting.[5][6][7][8]
The district was 14.26 square miles (9,130 acres).[8]
The district, as redistricted in 2022 following the2020 United States census is entirely located in the city of Chicago.[9]
The district has only ever been represented by Democratic commissioners. Only once has another party run a nominee in an election in this district.
