Container glass is a type ofglass for the production ofglass containers, such asbottles,jars,drinkware, andbowls. Container glass stands in contrast toflat glass (used forwindows, glass doors, transparent walls,windshields) andglass fiber (used forthermal insulation, infiberglass composites, andoptical communication).
Container glass has a lowermagnesium oxide andsodium oxide content than flat glass, and a highersilica,calcium oxide, andaluminum oxide content.[1] Its higher content of water-insoluble oxides imparts slightly higherchemical durability against water, which is required for storage of beverages and food.
Most container glass issoda-lime glass, produced byblowing and pressing techniques, while somelaboratory glassware is made fromborosilicate glass.
