Constantin Moldoveanu (25 October 1943 – 10 September 2013) was aRomanian footballforward,manager andreferee.[2][3][4]

Club career

Moldoveanu was born on 25 October 1943 inPloiești, Romania and began playing football in 1958 at the junior squads ofCSMS Iași.[1][3] In 1961 he returned toPloiești to play forPetrolul where on 19 August 1962 he made hisDivizia A debut under coachIlie Oană in a 0–0 draw againstProgresul București.[1][3][5] He scored two goals in a 6–1 victory againstSiderurgistul Galați in the1963 Cupa României final that helpedPetrolul Ploiești win the firstCupa României in the club's history.[2][6] In 1964 he went to play for half a season atSteaua București, returning afterwards to Petrolul.[1][3] In his second spell withThe Yellow Wolves, Moldoveanu helped the team win the1965–66 Divizia A title, being used by coachConstantin Cernăianu in 24 matches in which he scored six goals.[1][7] Moldoveanu also played three games in the first round of the1966–67 European Cup againstLiverpool that included a 3–1 victory in which he scored a goal, but they did not manage to qualify to the next round.[1][2][4][8] In 1969 he went to play forPolitehnica Iași where in the1970–71 Divizia A season he scored 15 goals, being the top-scorer of the league alongsideFlorea Dumitrache andGheorghe Tătaru.[1][3][2][4][9] In 1972 Moldoveanu joinedSportul Studențesc București where on 28 October 1973 he made his lastDivizia A appearance in a 2–0 away loss toUTA Arad, having a total of 222 appearances and 59 goals scored in the competition.[1][3] He also accumulated 16 matches and eight goals scored inCupa României and nine matches with one goal scored in European competitions (including four games in theInter-Cities Fairs Cup).[1][3] Moldoveanu ended his career by playing two seasons inDivizia B, first at Petrolul and then atPrahova Ploiești.[1][3]

International career

Moldoveanu played one friendly game forRomania on 4 January 1967, when coachBazil Marian sent him in the 14th minute to replace captainIon Ionescu in a 1–1 draw againstUruguay inMontevideo atEstadio Gran Parque Central.[10]

Managerial career

Moldoveanu worked as a coach mainly in the Romanian lower leagues, having a few spells inDivizia A atGloria Buzău andPetrolul Ploiești.[3][11] He also coached juniors for many years and worked for a while as a footballreferee.[3][4]

Death

On 10 September 2013, Moldoveanu died in the Ploiești County Hospital.[2][3][4][12]
