From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clear acrylic shell temporary ocular prosthesis
This article is about the shell in eye replacement surgery. For the term in chemistry, seeConformational isomerism.

Aconformer is a clearacrylic shell fitted after anenucleation of the eye[1] if the final artificial eye is not available at the time of surgery, to hold the shape of theeye socket and allow the eyelids to blink over the shell without rubbing thesuture line. The conformer shell holds the shape ready for the artificial eye, and is worn for six to eight weeks after surgery.Someocularists will make a temporary artificial eye which can be worn as the conformer shell.[citation needed]
