Colm Markey (born 3 January 1972) is an Irish politician who served as aMember of the European Parliament (MEP) fromIreland for theMidlands–North-West constituency from November 2020 to July 2024. He is a member ofFine Gael, part of theEuropean People's Party.[1]
He is a member of the European Parliament Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI)[2] and a substitute on the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Committee on Fisheries (PECH), the Committee of Inquiry on the Protection of Animals during Transport (ANIT) and the Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER).[3]
Markey was a member ofLouth County Council from 2009 to 2020.[4] He is a former president ofMacra na Feirme. In November 2020, he replacedMairead McGuinness as an MEP in theEuropean Parliament following her appointment asEuropean Commissioner.
In March 2024, Markey announced that he would not seek re-election to theEuropean Parliament at the2024 European Parliament election.[5]
