Colin Kaywood Garrett (born July 6, 2000) is an American professional racing driver who last competed part-time in theNASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 07Chevrolet Camaro forSS-Green Light Racing, as well as in theTC America Series in TCX forRooster Hall Racing in aBMW M2 CS Cup car.[1] He has also competed in theNASCAR Truck Series,NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (now the ARCA Menards Series East) and theCARS Tour in the past.

Racing career

Garrett began racing in 2015 at the age of 14, competing in the Pure Stock division atSouth Boston Speedway. He was awarded theUNOH Youth Achievement Award in 2016 and 2017 at SoBo and in 2017 won theNASCARWhelen All-American Series Limited Late Model division championship at SoBo. In 2017, he also competed in select Late Model Stock Car events at numerous tracks, earning two pole awards and a win atDominion Raceway.[2]

K&N Pro Series East

Garrett ran 12 of the 14 races in 2018, driving the No. 18 Toyota for Hunt-Sellers Racing.[3] His highest finish was P3 in the season’s fourth race atSouth Boston Speedway. The team ran aDays of Thunder throwback scheme for theKing Cadillac GMC Throwback 100 atThompson Speedway Motorsports Park, imitating Russ Wheeler's paint scheme.[4] Garrett's 2018 season was originally supposed to be a part-time effort with sporadic races throughout the year, but eventually expanded to include all of the races from Langley on forward.[5]

In 2019, Garrett returned to Sam Hunt Racing and the No. 18, but switched from Toyota to Chevrolet. They competed in 10 of 12 events with a best finish of P6.[6][7]

Xfinity Series

In April 2019, Garrett made his debut in theNASCAR Xfinity Series.[8][9] He drove the No. 66 Toyota forMBM Motorsports atRichmond Raceway. They started P24 and finished P26, three laps down.[10]

For the 2019NASCARXfinity Series finale atHomestead-Miami Speedway, Garrett and Sam Hunt Racing made their first start together in the series. They started P15 and finished P21, one lap down.

Garrett would go on to drive part-time forSam Hunt Racing in the Xfinity Series in2020 and2021.

Garrett returned to the Xfinity Series in 2023, replacingKatherine Legge in theSS-Green Light Racing No. 07 car in the race at theIndianapolis road course after Legge's sponsor, Blast Equality Collab, did not want to be on the car due to their members' connection with thewriters' strike going on at the time.[11]

Truck Series

Garrett ran his firstNASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race in the2019 World of Westgate 200 atLas Vegas Motor Speedway, driving the No. 38 Chevrolet forNiece Motorsports starting P21 and finishing P24, 3 laps down, due to transmission issues.[12]

He returned to Niece and the Truck Series in October 2020 atKansas Speedway starting P20 and finishing P24, 4 laps down, after being involved in an early crash.[13]

On June 8, 2022, it was announced that Garrett would drive the No. 30 truck forOn Point Motorsports in theDoorDash 250 atSonoma, replacingTate Fogleman, who had been scheduled to drive that truck full-time in 2022 but was taken out of the truck for this race. However, due to the late notice of this opportunity, Garrett was unable to receive his drug test back in time to be able to compete.Josh Bilicki filled in starting P26 and finishing P30 due to a crash.[14]

TC America

Colin would make the transition to sports car racing in 2022[15] with the move toTC America in the TCX class. There he would win in his third start and finish on the podium 11 out of 14 races with 7 wins. He finished second in the championship after coming back from a 59-point deficit winning, 4 races in a row, and would ultimately lose the championship by 2 points inIndianapolis.[16]

In 2023, it was announced Garrett would return to Rooster Hall Racing forTC America in TCX. He would go on to win the season opener atSonoma Raceway[17] and take the points lead, leading it for the remainder of the year.[18] Along with 13 podiums and 6 wins out of 14 races, he would win the 2023 TCX Championship.[19]

GT4 America

After a successful season inTC America in 2022,[20] Rooster Hall Racing made the decision to bring Garrett aboard the GT4 program alongside 3xGuinness Book of World Records holder[21][22] Johan Schwartz for 2023.[23] The duo would go on to finish on the podium twice during the 2023 season in their BMW M4 GT4.[24]
