Coleophora sternipennella is amoth of the familyColeophoridae. It is found in all of Europe, exceptGreece and theMediterranean islands. It is also known from theCaucasus. It occurs in steppe and desert biotopes, in wasteland and uncultivated parts of anthropogenic areas.
Thewingspan is about 13 mm (0.51 in). Adult are on wing from July to August in western Europe.[2]
The larvae feed onAtriplex andChenopodium species creating a tubular silken case which is 6–8 mm (0.24–0.31 in) long.[3] Larvae can be found from September. They overwinter as a larva before pupating in June.
