Coilus was alegendary king of theBritons during the time of theRomanoccupation ofBritain as recounted inGeoffrey of Monmouth's pseudohistoricalHistoria Regum Britanniae. He came to power in 142AD.[1]
He was the son of KingMarius and ruled following his father's death.
According to Geoffrey, Coilus was brought up inRome and favoured the company of Romans in Britain.[2] Throughout his reign, he paid Rome itstribute without question. In Britain, he allowed thenobles peace and granted them large gifts. He was succeeded by his only son,Lucius.
