Cody Fry is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer based inNashville,Tennessee. He gained national attention on the14th season ofAmerican Idol making it to the top 48. He has released several solo albums since 2006. His work spans many genres includingpop,orchestral pop, andsoul. He is known for his orchestral pop compositions, including orchestral versions of covers. In 2021, he was nominated for a Grammy Award at the64th edition in the category ofBest Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals for his cover ofThe Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby", and again in 2025 for his arrangement of "The Sound of Silence" bySimon & Garfunkel.
He has collaborated and worked with a number of artists, includingCory Wong andBen Rector. He's released eight albums and one compilation which include recent releases such asPictures of Mountains (2021),Symphony Sessions (2022), andThe End (2023).
Cody Fry, the son of orchestral composer Gary Fry,[1] is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and musician. He moved to Nashville to study voice atBelmont University after graduating fromNew Trier High School in 2008, where he actively participated in various ensembles such as the symphony orchestra, choir opera, swing choir, and chorus.[2]
In 2015, Cody gained national recognition as one of the 48 final contestants on the14th season ofAmerican Idol, leaving a lasting impression with his remarkable vocal abilities.[2]
In 2021, his song "I Hear a Symphony" became a hit on TikTok,[3] achieving massive success and climbing the Spotify Global Viral Charts, charting in 38 countries. This achievement solidified his reputation as an artist with global appeal and a unique musical style. Furthermore, Cody's talent as an arranger was acknowledged in 2021 when his cover ofThe Beatles'Eleanor Rigby received aGrammy nomination in theGrammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals category.[4] He received his second Grammy nomination in the same category in 2025 for his cover ofPaul Simon'sThe Sound of Silence.[5]
Fry's musical career has afforded him the opportunity to perform at prestigious venues worldwide and collaborate with various artists in the industry. In 2020, he performed with theMetropole Orkest for the live show "Live in Amsterdam", featuringCory Wong and the Metropole Orkest.[6] In 2023, Fry performed his songs"Underground" and"Photograph" atJohn F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts withBen Rector andthe National Symphony Orchestra conducted bySteven Reineke.[7] Ben Rector and Cody Fry continued their partnership and toured their orchestra show around the country appearing with orchestras including theNashville Symphony,[8]Pacific Symphony,[9] andDallas Symphony,[10] (conducted byEnrico Lopez-Yañez), as well as theMinnesota Orchestra[11] (conducted bySarah Hicks) and theCincinnati Pops[12] among others.

Flying is the fourth studio album released by Fry.[13] The album was recorded at Blackwatch Studio inNorman, Oklahoma and the orchestral score was mainly recorded atOcean Way Studios inNashville, Tennessee.[14] Fry scored and arranged all 14 songs on this album.[15]
The song "I Hear a Symphony" went viral onTikTok in 2021. It was a surprise hit and Fry has played the song in symphony orchestras across the United States, including at theSt. Louis Symphony Orchestra.[16][17]
