Club MTV is a half hour television show modeled afterAmerican Bandstand that aired onMTV from August 31, 1987, to June 26, 1992.[1]Club MTV was part of MTV's second generation of programming, as the channel was phasing out its original 5VJs and introducing new ones.

Format

Hosted byDowntown Julie Brown (Kevin Seal hosted the pilot) atThe Palladium, a large dance club inNew York City, the show cut back and forth between teenagers and young adults dancing to a hitmusic video. Musical guests often introduced their new brand singles.

Club MTV Tour

In July 1989, MTV launched aClub MTV Tour featuringWas (Not Was),Information Society (Band),Paula Abdul,Tone Loc andMilli Vanilli, withDowntown Julie Brown & the Club MTV dancers.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

Club MTV Party To Go Album

In 1991, Tommy Boy Records released the albumClub MTV Party To Go Volume One on CD, cassette, vinyl, and Laserdisc. The songs were continuously mixed. The tracklist is:

Legacy

On March 20, 2005,VH1 Classic aired a marathon of oldClub MTV episodes.

On April 25, 2020, MTV broughtClub MTV back for a special, titledClub MTV: Dance Together hosted byD-Nice andKeke Palmer. The one night only event served as a fund raising benefit to help music programs during the coronavirus pandemic.[8]
