InGreek mythology,Kleodora orCleodora (/kləˈdɔːrə/;Ancient Greek:Κλεοδώρα,romanizedKleodôra,lit.'means ‘glorious gift’') was one of the propheticThriae, nymphs who divined the future by throwing stones or pebbles and were associated with theOracle of Delphi. Her name comes fromkleos ‘famous’ anddôron ‘gift’, in reference to her gift of prophecy.

Mythology

[edit]

Cleodora and her sistersMelaina and Daphnis lived onMount Parnassus, whereDelphi is located. WithPoseidon (orKleopompos), she was the mother ofParnassos,[1] who created a method of telling the future using birds and founded the main city onMt. Parnassus. Kleodora's father wasCephissus, ariver god of northernBoeotia.

As a member of the Thriae, Kleodora is often conflated with the bee maidens of theHomeric Hymn to Hermes, from whomApollo directs Hermes to learn prophecy.[2]
