Claus Dascher "Babe" Benson (November 15, 1889 – ?) was an Americanbasketball player known for his collegiate career atColumbia University in the 1910s.[1] He led the Lions to back-to-backEastern Intercollegiate Basketball League (EIBL) championships in 1910–11 and 1911–12 and was named all-conference both seasons.[1][2] As asenior in 1911–12 Benson was named anNCAA All-American by theHelms Athletic Foundation.[2][3]

Benson served inWorld War I and returned to hisalma mater to coach Columbia for one season (1919–20).[4] He recorded a 4–10 overall record.[5] Benson also served as an assistant coach atArmy after Columbia.[6]
