Claudio Benjamín Orrego Larraín (born December 20, 1966) is aChilean lawyer,Christian Democrat politician, and theGovernor of the Santiago Metropolitan Region since July 14, 2021.
Orrego is a former minister ofPresidentRicardo Lagos and the former mayor of thecommune ofPeñalolén. In 2013, he was a candidate for the presidency of Chile, but lost theprimary election toMichelle Bachelet, and other candidates.[1][2] On March 11, 2014 he was appointedintendant of theSantiago Metropolitan Region by President Bachelet.[3]
On June 13, 2021, he was elected governor of theSantiago Metropolitan Region, in a newly created position,[4] and was subsequently reelected in 2024.
