Cioteronel (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name,USANTooltip United States Adopted Name) (developmental code nameCPC-10997; former tentative brand namesCyoctol,X-Andron) is anonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA) that was never marketed.[1][2][3] It was under development between 1989 and 2001 for thetopical treatment ofandrogenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), andacne and for theoral treatment ofbenign prostatic hyperplasia; it reachedphase IIIclinical trials for acne andphase II studies for androgenetic alopecia, but was ultimately discontinued due to poorefficacy.[3][4]
