It bordersKunming to the east,Yuxi andPu'er City to the south,Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture to the west, andLijiang andSichuan (Panzhihua andLiangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture) to the north. Chuxiong has an area of 29,256 km2 (11,296 sq mi). Thecapital of the prefecture isChuxiong City.
