Iconostasis

[edit]

Theiconostasis in the Church of St. Nicholas was painted bySerbBaroque painterLazar Serdanović in style ofTeodor Kračun.[4] Serdanović independently painted two iconostaisises in theSyrmia region with another one being the one in theChurch of the Dormition of the Theotokos in nearbyNegoslavci which was done earlier than Mikluševci's one but both at unknown time.[4] He was also assistant during the iconostasis painting in theChurch of St. Nicholas (1772–1776) inVukovar.[4] Iconostasis of the church is divided into five areas which together contain 66icons which were inspired bychalcography fromBiblia Ectypa (Pictorial Bible).[4] During the Croatian War of Independence iconostasis was dismantled and taken to thePatriarch's Court in Sremski Karlovci where it awaited urgentconservation and restoration due to its deteriorated state.[4]
