Chroomonadaceae is a family ofcryptomonads first recognized by Clay et al in 1999 as including generaChroomonas,Falcomonas, andKomma.[1] Following a molecular phylogenic study in 2002,Hemiselmis was also placed within the Chroomonadaceae.[2] Today, the family is generally recognized assister to thePyrenomonadaceae.
They are one of only two groups of cryptomonads (alongsideRhinomonas) to lack arhizostyle. They are also distinguished by the lack of acleavage furrow and the presence of severalphycocyanins andphycoerythrins not observed in any other cryptomonad taxa.[3]
