Floudas completed a diploma inchemical engineering at theAristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1982,[1] and received his Ph.D. in 1986 atCarnegie Mellon University under the guidance ofIgnacio Grossmann.[2][3][4] Floudas began teaching atPrinceton University upon earning his doctorate, and was later named the Stephen C. Macaleer ’63 Professor in Engineering and Applied Science.[5][6] From February 2015, he was the director of the Energy Institute atTexas A&M University, as well as the Erle Nye ’59 Chair Professor for Engineering Excellence within the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering.[3]
His research areas wereglobal optimization andprocess systems engineering.[5] In 2011, Floudas was elected a member of theNational Academy of Engineering "[f]or contributions to theory, methods, and applications ofglobal optimization inprocess systems engineering, computational chemistry, andmolecular biology."[7] In 2013, he was elected a fellow of theSociety for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.[8] From 2014 to 2015, Floudas was listed as one of thehighly cited researchers.[9] His h-index is 100 according toGoogle Scholar.[10]
