Christopher William Tancill (born February 7, 1968) is an American former professional ice hockeyright winger who played in theNational Hockey League (NHL).
Tancill was born inLivonia, Michigan.[1] As a youth, he played in the 1981Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with aminor ice hockey team fromSouthfield, Michigan.[2]
Tancill was drafted by theHartford Whalers in the1989 NHL Supplemental Draft.[3] After playing four seasons at theUniversity of Wisconsin–Madison, Tancill made his professional debut with theAmerican Hockey League'sSpringfield Indians in the1990–91 season and was one of the stars leading the team to theCalder Cup championship in that year. He also made his NHL debut with the Whalersthat same season, appearing in nine games, scoring one goal and adding one assist.[4]
Tancill was traded to theDetroit Red Wings during the1991–92 season in exchange forDaniel Shank.[5] For the1993–94 season, he joined theDallas Stars. After one season with the Stars, he spent three with theSan Jose Sharks organization.[6]
Tancill played in two more NHL games with the Dallas Stars during the1997–98 season. He then went toSwitzerland and spent six seasons inNationalliga A. He retired following the 2003–04 season.[citation needed]
In his NHL career, Tancill appeared in 134 games. He scored 17 goals and added 32 assists. He also appeared in 11Stanley Cup playoff games, scoring one goal and adding one assist.[citation needed]
