Chris Stearns is an American politician who is aDemocratic member of theWashington Legislature representing the State's47th House district for position 2.[1] He is a member of theNavajo nation.[2] Before serving in the legislature, Stearns was the first tribal member to serve on theAuburn City Council.[3]
Sterns graduated fromLawrenceville School.[4] He earned a B.A. with honors in history fromWilliams College.[4] He graduated with aJuris Doctor degree fromCornell Law School.[4]
PresidentBill Clinton appointed Stearns as director of Indian affairs for theU.S. Department of Energy under SecretaryBill Richardson.[5] Stearns served as chair of the Washington State Gambling Commission and a member of the City of Seattle's Human Rights Commission.[5][6] He also served as president of the Seattle Indian Health Board.[7]
Stearns was elected to the Auburn City Council in 2019.[5] He stepped down from this position in December 2022, after being elected to the state House.[4]
