Chris Lafferty (born May 28, 1977) is an American professionalstock car racing driver, crew chief, and former team owner ofLafferty Motorsports. He last competed part-time in theNASCAR Camping World Truck Series, driving forJJC Racing.
After growing up inVacaville, California, Lafferty moved toConcord, North Carolina in 1998 to pursue a racing career. In addition to working as an engine builder, he was a journalist for various racing magazines.[1]
In 2003, he formed Lafferty Motorsports.[1] In addition to competing in theARCA Re/Max Series andNASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the team ran adriver development program; members of the program included regional truck racerRuss Dugger,[2]dirt track racing driversTyler Hudson andCole Exum,[3][4] andkart racersBryan Hayberger andAndrew Broucher.[5][6]
Lafferty made his Truck Series debut in 2009 atPhoenix International Raceway; he had failed to qualify in his first attempt atMartinsville Speedway.[7]
In 2011, he ran four Truck races in a truck promoting theTea Party movement in the buildup to the2012 United States presidential election.[8] In 2012, he partnered withFox Sports to createChris Lafferty's Motorsports TV, a biweekly television program that also featured his daughter Hannah hosting a kid-friendly segment.[9]
Lafferty returned to ARCA in 2015 withCarter 2 Motorsports atLucas Oil Raceway.[10] He finished 27th after retiring on lap 98 with electrical problems.[11]
In 2017, Lafferty joinedESPN Radio as a talk show host forThe Sam and Chris Show alongside NASCAR artistSam Bass.[12]
