Chris Huntington (born September 22, 1960) is an Americanrower.[1] He won gold at the1987 Pan American Games,[2] and competed in themen's coxed four event at the1988 Summer Olympics.[3] Huntington later became a news correspondent forCNN.[4]
Huntington was born inBethesda, Maryland in 1960.[1] He rowed and studied at theUniversity of California, Berkeley, before moving to England to study at theUniversity of Oxford.[1] At Oxford, Huntington was part of what was known as the "Oxford Mutiny" prior to the1987 Boat Race.[1][5][6] Huntington, along withDan Lyons,Chris Penny andJonathan Fish departed from Oxford's squad in protest of the training and coaching being delivered by the team coachDan Topolski.[7][8]
At theWorld Rowing Championships, Huntington won two bronze medals.[1] His first came ineights event in 1985,[9] and his second bronze came the following year in thecoxed four event.[10] He then went on to win a silver medal at the1986 Goodwill Games,[1] and the gold medal in the eight at the1987 Pan American Games.[1] At the1988 Summer Olympics inSeoul, Huntington competed in themen's coxed four, with the US team finishing in fifth place.[11]
After his rowing career, Huntington worked for nearly two decades as a correspondent and producer forCNN.[1][12] He then went to work in the energy sector, becoming a business partner in a renewable energy company.[1][13]
