Atemnospondyl species placed in a monotypic genusChomatobatrachus and allied to theLydekkerinidae family.The description was published in 1974 by the palaeontologistJohn W. Cosgriff.[1][2]The type locality is Meadowbank, a site associated with theKnocklofty Formation, where a skull was discovered inInduan terrestrialmudstone.[3]
