China women's national football team (Chinese :中国国家女子足球队 ;pinyin :Zhōngguó Guójiā Nǚzǐ Zúqiú Duì , recognized asChina PR byFIFA ) represents thePeople's Republic of China in internationalwomen's football competitions and is governed by theChinese Football Association .[ 2]
China women's team won silver medals at the1996 Summer Olympics and the1999 FIFA Women's World Cup . It also has won 9 titles atAsian Cup and 3 Gold medals atAsian Games .
Nicknamed theSteel Roses (Chinese:铿锵玫瑰 ),[ 3] [ 4] they won several international titles in the 1990s,[ 5] during the Golden Generation.[ 4] The team lost some pace in the continent to the national teams ofJapan andAustralia after the start of the 21st century although in 2023, the team was ranked as the 15th best in the world[ 6] and also won the ninthAFC Asian Cup in their story, the first since 2006.[ 4]
