Achief judge (also known aschief justice,presiding judge,president judge oradministrative judge) is the highest-ranking or most senior member of acourt ortribunal with more than onejudge.[1] The chief judge commonly presides overtrials andhearings.
In Australia the term Chief Judge can refer to the principal judicial officer of a stateDistrict Court,[2] as in New South Wales, or a stateCounty Court,[3] as in Victoria. The former is appointed by the state's Governor, while the latter may be appointed by the state's Attorney-General.
