Chase Foster Jackson (née Ealey; born July 20, 1994) is an Americantrack and field athlete who competes inshot put anddiscus throw. She won the gold medal at the2022 and2023 in women's shot put,[2][3] which made her the first American woman to win a shot put world title at the World Athletics Championships. She won on the first attempt which, according to Olympic historianBill Mallon, made her the first woman's shot put world champion to win on the first attempt.[4]

Early life and education

Jackson was bornChase Foster Ealey on July 20, 1994, inSpringfield,Illinois, to Chuck Ealey and Michelle Naranjo.[5][6] Her parents met while her father was in theU.S. Army and was stationed atWhite Sands Missile Range inNew Mexico; they moved toRiverton, Illinois, where Jackson lived the first years of her life.[5] Her parents divorced when she was three years old, and she moved with her mother toLos Alamos, New Mexico.[5] She has a sister named Taylor.[7]

Jackson graduated fromLos Alamos High School in 2012.[8]

Career

2009-2012: High school

As a freshman at Los Alamos High School in 2009, Jackson placed 1st in the 100 m sprint at the New Mexico 4A State Track and Field Championships, with a time of 12.73 seconds,[9] and placed 2nd in shot put with a throw of 12.095 m (39 ft 8 in).[10]

In 2010, she placed 1st in 100 m sprint at the New Mexico 4A State Track and Field Championship, with a time of 12.46 seconds,[11] and placed 2nd in shot put with a throw of 12.11 m (39 ft8+34 in), narrowly beating her sister Taylor Ealey, who was two years older and in 12th grade at the time.[12]

Jackson placed 1st in both shot put and the 100 m sprint at the 2011 New Mexico 4A State Track and Field Championships, with a throw of 12.8968 m (42 ft3+12 in), and a time of 12.52 seconds.[13]

As a senior in 2012, she was the New Mexico state champion in shot put, with a throw of 14.40 m (47 ft2+34 in),[14] and state champion in the 100 m, with a time of 12.35 seconds.[15]

2013-2016: Collegiate career

2016-present: Professional career & Olympics

Jackson is a two-time shot put world champion, 2022 and 2023, outdoor shot put world champion and the 2019 US outdoor and indoor shot put champion. She was the2018 United States Indoor 4th-place finisher in the shot put.[18][8]

Jackson shared how she dealt with mental challenges of competing on the global stage at2019 World Championship and how she was recovering from COVID-19 in winter 2021.[19][20] Jackson conducted clinics for high school and youth athletes in 2019.[21]

Jackson tiedMichelle Carter'sNorth American record andnational record at the 2022 World Indoor Championship shot put final with a result of 20.21 m (66 ft 4 in).

In 2023, Jackson placed first at the World Outdoor Championships, with a final result of 20.43 m (67 ft 0 in).[22]

Jackson competed as Chase Ealey until early 2024, when she married and began competing as Chase Jackson.[23] She competed at the2024 Summer Olympics inParis, but did not qualify for the finals. She fouled on her first two attempts and threw 17.60 m (57 ft 9 in) on her last attempt, placing 17th, with only 12 advancing to the final.[24]

In 2025, Jackson won her third straight USATF Indoor National Championship in shot put with a throw of 19.65 m (64 ft5+12 in).[2] She broke the US women's record in shot put, which she also previously held, with a throw of 20.95 m (68 ft8+34 in) at the Iron Wood Throws Classic inRathdrum, Idaho.[25]
