Charcot's cholangitis triad is the combination ofjaundice;fever, usually withrigors; andright upper quadrantabdominal pain. It occurs as a result ofascending cholangitis (an infection of thebile duct in the liver). When the presentation also includeslow blood pressure andmental status changes, it is known asReynolds' pentad.[1] It is named afterJean-Martin Charcot.[2]
