Channel Lake is anunincorporated community andcensus-designated place (CDP) inAntioch Township,Lake County,Illinois, United States. Per the2020 census, the population was 1,581.[3]
Channel Lake is located in northwestern Lake County on the northwest and southwest sides of Channel Lake, part of theChain O'Lakes system of lakes in northern Illinois leading to theFox River. It is bordered to the east by the community ofLake Catherine and to the north by the village ofSalem Lakes, Wisconsin.
According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Channel Lake has a total area of 2.40 square miles (6.22 km2), of which 1.80 square miles (4.66 km2) (or 75.10%) is land and 0.60 square miles (1.55 km2) (or 24.90%) is water.[4]

As of the2020 census[8] there were 1,581 people, 738 households, and 452 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 658.20 inhabitants per square mile (254.13/km2). There were 875 housing units at an average density of 364.28 per square mile (140.65/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 90.45%White, 0.51%African American, 0.19%Native American, 0.32%Asian, 0.00%Pacific Islander, 1.83% fromother races, and 6.70% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 7.65% of the population.
There were 738 households, out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.94% were married couples living together, 15.31% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.75% were non-families. 34.82% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.98% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.97 and the average family size was 2.42.
The CDP's age distribution consisted of 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37.8 years. For every 100 females, there were 108.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 117.6 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $51,875, and the median income for a family was $70,667. Males had a median income of $36,848 versus $38,750 for females. Theper capita income for the CDP was $33,467. About 21.7% of families and 21.1% of the population were below thepoverty line, including 35.9% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.
