Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (often abbreviated asCSTPS) is athermal power plant located inChandrapur district in the Indian state ofMaharashtra. The power plant is one of the coal based power plants ofMAHAGENCO. The coal for the power plant is sourced from Durgapur and Padmapur Collieries ofWestern Coalfields Limited.[1] The plant was officially inaugurated by the Prime MinisterIndira Gandhi on 8 October 1984.[2]

With the total capacity of 3340MW,[3] the plant is the largest power plant in the Maharashtra. It accounts for more than 25% ofMaharashtra's total needs.[citation needed] The plant gets water supply fromErai Dam when in normal conditions. In the summer of 2010 due to less water in Erai, the plant also got water supply fromChargaon Dam.[4]
