Chainhurst is awealden village inKent, England, and is part ofMarden civil parish andMaidstone District. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Marden, below Bidborough Ridge, and south of theRiver Beult floodplain.[2][3]
Chainhurst Farmhouse isgrade II* listed and parts of it date back to the 16th century.[4]
Historically, Chainhurst's predominant employment was in agriculture.[5]
Farmland near Chainhurst is used fororchards andarable crops. There were extensivehop gardens with several formeroast houses surviving. TheHopper huts south of the bridge over theRiver Beult accommodated seasonal workers for the annual hop harvest.[6][7]
Many residents now commute to work in London or elsewhere.[8]
Since about 2000, Reed Court Farm has been aCyclo-Cross venue in the sport's London and South East League.[9]
