Cesare Martin (Italian pronunciation:[ˈtʃeːzaremarˈtin]; 14 May 1901 – 26 February 1971) was an Italianfootballer who played as adefender.[1] He was known asMartin II to distinguish himself from his three brothersPiero (I),Dario (III) andEdmondo (IV).[2]
Grown in theTorino youth, he moved to the first team in 1919–20. He made his debut on 28 December 1919 in an away fixture againstAlessandria, won 1–0. He represented the club in 354 games in the league, and scored one goal. He also disputed a game ofCoppa Italia. He is the 6th player with the most appearances in the history of theGranata.
The only goal scored by Martin II was marked on 25 March 1923 in a home match against Virtus Bologna (3–0). He played his last game for Torino on 26 December 1935, in a Coppa Italia fixture againstReggiana. He played continuously from 29 February 1920, until 18 December 1927 contending 170 consecutive games without forfeiting his place in the team. He won theScudetto with Torino in1926–27 (later revoked), and in1927–28, as well as theCoppa Italia in1935–36.
He subsequently moved toPinerolo, where he spent five seasons, before ending his career.
WithItaly he only played 44 minutes on 27 May 1923, in a 1–5 loss in front of 25,000 spectators in a friendly against theCzechoslovakia national team.[3] He entered in 46th minute, replacingUmberto Caligaris.[4]
