María Cecilia Rognoni (born December 1, 1976, inBuenos Aires) is a retiredArgentinefield hockey player, who won the2002 World Cup inPerth, Australia where she was elected as the best woman hockey player in the world by theFIH.

Cecilia belongs to the generation that gave rise to the myth of theLas Leonas. She won the silver medal at the2000 Summer Olympics inSydney, the bronze medal at the2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and theChampions Trophy in 2001. In 2005, she was separated from the Argentine national field hockey team by the coachGabriel Minadeo, after she said that "many of the players have a place on the team just because of their surname".[1] She came back to the team in 2010[2] underCarlos Retegui coaching but was forced to leave the team due knee injuries.[3]

She also played forClub Ciudad de Buenos Aires, and in the Netherlands forHC Rotterdam andHC Bloemendaal in the second division of theNetherlands.[4].
