Cave Kids (also known asCave Kids Adventures orCave Kids: Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm) is an Americananimatedpreschool television series produced byHanna-Barbera Cartoons and aspin-off ofThe Flintstones. The show was syndicated to public television stations[1][2] byWarner Bros. Television from September 29 to November 17, 1996, with reruns available until 1999.[3][4] It's also Hanna-Barbera's final television series produced before being acquired byTime Warner. The show also aired reruns onBoomerang andMeTV Toons.

Premise

[edit]

The series follows the adventures ofPebbles Flintstone andBamm-Bamm Rubble as prehistoricpre-schoolers withDino, the Flintstone family's pet dinosaur, as theirbabysitter. While Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm speak inbaby-talkgibberish to adults, they could communicate normally with each other, a laRugrats (another show that Bamm-Bamm's voice actresses, Cavanaugh and Daily worked on).[5]

Unlike the original 1960sFlintstones series and its spin-off incarnations featuring the kids and their parents inslapstick comedy adventures, this show focused more on educational values and lessons for children, with each episode also concluding with amusic video relating to the episode's theme, using often-altered footage from the episode. Another thing worth noting is that Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm and Dino were the only established characters to appear in the show. Every other character from the television was completely absent.

An earlierCave Kids effort was published byGolden Press, both as aLittle Golden Books in 1963, and also as aGold Key Comics series spanning 16 issues from 1963 through 1967.[6]
