If possible, asteroids should always be placed into one of the numerous sub-categories, in line with the category information given in theminor-planet catalog. Used sources:Small Body Data Ferret (Nesvorný) andAstDys (Milani and Knežević).
All asteroids should be sorted using a 0-padded, 6-digitsortkey based on theirnumerical designation. Otherwise, their provisional designation should be used. For example:
Family asteroid1270 Datura would use[[Category:Datura asteroids|001270]].
Family asteroid without proper category,3156 Ellington, would use[[Category:Main-belt asteroids|003156]].
Non-family asteroid4881 Robmackintosh would use[[Category:Background asteroids|004881]].
Unnumbered asteroid2004 BX159 (undetermined family) would simply use[[Category:Main-belt asteroids|#]].
