It is named after thetype site ofLa Madeleine, arock shelter located in the Vézère valley, commune ofTursac, inFrance'sDordogne department. The Magdalenianepoch is associated withreindeer hunters, although Magdalenian sites contain extensive evidence for the hunting ofred deer,horses, and other largemammals present inEurope toward the end of thelast glacial period.
