Juan Carlos Pouso Lejonagoitia (born 30 July 1960) is a Spanish formerfootballer who played as aforward, currentlymanager ofSD Logroñés.

He played no higher thanSegunda División B, and spent most of his managerial career of over two decades at that same level. He ledEibar andMirandés for one season each in theSegunda División.

Football career

Born inLeioa,Basque Country, Pouso began working as a professional manager in 2000 withArenas de Getxo. He was appointed at neighbouringSestao River Club three years later, achieving two promotions toSegunda División B with the latter team.

On 17 June 2008, Pouso became coach ofSegunda División clubSD Eibar,[1] being granted a one-year leave from his job in theshipbuilding industry in order to fully dedicate himself to his new line of work.[2] He was sacked in March 2009 after a poor run of results, being replaced byJosu Uribe[3] asthe season ended in relegation.[4]

In late January 2010, Pouso returned to the third tier after being named manager ofCD Guijuelo with the aim ofavoiding relegation,[5] which was eventually met. He signed with fellow league sideCD Mirandés on 1 June,[6] leading them to division two for the first time in their history in hissecond year andreaching the semi-finals of theCopa del Rey in the process.[7][8]

On 30 June 2013, Mirandés decided not to renew Pouso's contract even though he managed to finishabove the relegation zone.[9] After one year of inactivity, he was appointed atUD Logroñés in the third division,[10] leading his team to consecutive presences in the promotion play-offs albeit without success.[11] Having resigned from his post in November 2016, he became the club'sdirector of football.[12]

On 6 February 2018, Pouso joinedRacing de Santander on a deal until the end ofthe campaign, replacing the firedÁngel Viadero.[13] He returned to work in November the following year, atPontevedra CF.[14]

Pouso was removed from his post at theGalician club in February 2020 after a run ofeight games without a win, though he stayed in other functions until the end of the season.[15] Thirteen months later, he was back at work at aRecreativo de Huelva side facing relegation from the third tier.[16] He was unable to preventEl Decano from suffering anunprecedented double descent to the fifth division following a restructuring of theSpanish football league system.[17]

On 26 December 2022, after more than a year without a club, Pouso was appointed atCD Calahorra in thePrimera Federación, replacing the dismissed Juan García.[18] He left at the end of the2023–24 campaign, ended in relegation toSegunda Federación.[19]

On 2 June 2024, Pouso took over atSD Logroñés also in the fourth tier.[20]
