Abdur Razzak Molla ofCPI(M) has represented the Canning Purba Assembly constituency from 1977 to 2006. He defeated his nearest rivals, Amirul Islam ofAITC in 2006,[4] Mujibar Rahman Kayal ofINC in 2001,[5] Akram Laskar ofINC in 1996,[6] Abdus Sattar Molla ofINC in 1991,[7] Amar Nath Bandopadhyay ofINC in 1987,[8] Ahammad Nuruzzaman ofINC in 1982[9] and Osman Gani ofINC in 1977.[10][11]
Gobinda Chandra Naskar ofINC won the Canning Assembly constituency in 1972[12] and 1971.[13] Narayan Naskar ofINC won in 1969.[14] A.C.Halder ofBangla Congress won in 1967.[15] Khagendra Nath Naskar ofINC won in 1962.[16] In 1957,[17] Canning Assembly constituency had joint seats. Khagendra Nath Naskar and Abdus Shukur, both ofINC, won. The seat did not exist prior to that.
