Campbell County was acounty of theU.S. state ofGeorgia from 1828 (197 years ago) (1828) to 1931 (94 years ago) (1931). It was created by the statelegislature on December 20, 1828, from land taken fromFayette,Coweta, andCarroll counties, and from the half ofDeKalb County which becameFulton County soon afterward. Georgia'sCherokee Land Lottery of 1832 also added to the county. The county was named for Duncan G. Campbell, one of the U.S. commissioners responsible for theTreaty of Indian Springs.[1][2]

The original county seat wasCampbellton. In 1854 theAtlanta and West Point Railroad routed its tracks throughFairburn, Georgia instead, which flourished while Campbellton died out, and Fairburn became thecounty seat in 1870.
