Camboriú is amunicipality in thestate ofSanta Catarina in theSouth region ofBrazil.[2][3][4][5] It is nearBalneario Camboriu, a popular beach destination.
The toponym "Camboriú" is a reference to theCamboriú River. The name originates from theTupi language, meaning "river of thecommon snook", fromkamuri (snook) and'y (river). Another hypothesis is that theindigenous origin was inspired by the relief of the Pedra Branca, a hill that resembles a female breast and is visible from several points in the municipality. According to Patrianova, inPequeno Livro, Cambu means "to nurse", and Ryry, Ruru or Riú means nursing container, i.e. breast.
