Chemical compound

Caesium heptafluoroxenate is aninorganic compound ofcaesium, andfluorine, andxenon with the chemical formulaCs[XeF7]. It consists of caesiumcationsCs+ and heptafluoroxenate(VI)anions[XeF7]−.

Preparation

Caesium heptafluoroxenate can be prepared by dissolvingcaesium fluoride in liquidxenon hexafluoride:[1]

CsF + XeF6 → Cs[XeF7]

Properties

Caesium heptafluoroxenate is a yellow solid that is stable at room temperature. It is a very strongoxidizer. The compound decomposes at 50 °C to producecaesium octofluoroxenate:[2]

2 Cs[XeF7] → Cs2[XeF8] + XeF6

Uses

Caesium heptafluoroxenate is used to isolatexenon hexafluoride from a reaction mixture.
