Cadiz Dunes Wilderness is a protectedwilderness area in theMojave Trails National Monument inSan Bernardino County, California. Established in 1994 by the U.S. Congress, the area is managed by theBureau of Land Management. This wilderness area is north ofJoshua Tree National Park,Sheephole Valley Wilderness lies to the west,Old Woman Mountains Wilderness to the east.[2] Thedunes of Cadiz Dunes were formed by blowing sands from the Cadizdry lake, all located in the Cadiz Valley between theCalumet Mountains and theOld Woman Mountains. The ecology is typical of theMojave Desert with wildlife that includescoyote,black-tailed jackrabbits,ground squirrels,kangaroo rats,quail,roadrunners, andrattlesnakes. The area is known for a brilliant display of springtime desert wildflowers including theBorrego milkvetch.[3]
